These are allusions to, or large versions of, milagros. Milagros are a catholic tradition where people attach little metal charms to statues of saints or to the walls of a church. the charms are shaped like something they want or are hoping to happen, or like something that they’ve received already, placed as thanks to that saint.
these are by Taller Yonke (Alberto Morackis and Guadalupe Serrano, see www.muralesfrontera.org for more info)

Hi Marie, I’m hoping it’s okay, per the license noted to the right, if we use this image in an article for the upcoming issue of Terrain.org: A Journal of the Built & Natural Environments. Please contact me at contact1@terrain.org if follow-up is necessary. The issue launches September 10, 2009, but I can show you the image in use ahead of time. Or go to http://www.terrain.org for more information.
Thanks,

Marie? No Marie here.
But anyway, considering that your use of the photo looks to be non-commercial, that is fine. Remember the Share-Alike clause though.
