"I'm never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow..." -Elliot Smith, Waltz#2 (XO)
There's something about the power of a song that can make you feel an emotion that you're no where near really experiencing. 10 years ago (my god, is it really 10 years?) The lyrics would have fit kind of well; unless the song is about someone who is dead, rather than just about being dumped. it's so damn sad sounding, maybe that is what it's talking about.
But anyway, Elliot Smith is really great. At least on his latest album, XO. I've been really getting into lately. Axil just gave me a tape of it. I first heard it in his car when we were on our way to a party in Marin, driving across the Golden Gate at night with the top down on his convertible. It was an amazing night, synergistically accompanied by the amazing music.
It's just good singing and songwriting, just pop. but it's so intense and real and beautiful.
