I came to a realization today. I figured out what my problem with San Francisco is: Ann Arbor. What am I talking about, you ask? Well, there aren't many places that even come close to how cool this city is. Ann Arbor is one of them. Maybe Austin too, and ... where else? I don't know. But one thing's for sure. Not everyone has a chance to live in a cool place. They grow up or go to school in some wack place like Providence or Atlanta or butt-fuck Ohio. Then they show up here in San Francisco and they have nothing else to compare it with other than their boring old hood.
But me - shit, San Francisco is just Ann Arbor times 10. Or maybe times 50. But qualitatively, I'm used to the kinds of things that are avaliable here. I'm jaded. I'm cynical. I'm spoiled. San Francisco is like Ann Arbor, only with more cars, more people, more money, less greenery; less snow, but more fog. Same crazy artists hovering around for years trying to be something. Same pseudo intellectuals hanging around in coffee shops. And instead of engineering students from the university, you have computer geeks in the web industry.
Shit, maybe its better, but unfortunately, I'm worse....
