my dream | Mon Apr 16 15:37:50 2001 |
it's another great sunny day today. i wish i could spend
every sunny day just walking around and sipping coffee in
sidewalk cafes, lying in the grass. everyonce in a while a
friend would call my cellphone and ask if i wantd to meet at
a certain park and have an ice cream cone. clients would
also meet me in the park and i would r3ecite code to them
out loud, and then they'd pay me by the line in cash and
leave. also every once in awhile i'd get out my palm-sized
music computer and regale the lunchtime crowds in the park
with some electronic folk music. some of the audience would
then buy me lunch or invite me to a party that evening.

ftrain.com has a lot of really great
stuff on it, from language machines to really good stories
to humorous takes on current events. i highly reccommend it.

the problem with blogs is you have to actually update them
regularly. i don't really do anything on the web regularly
other than work. grrr. you also sort of have to find
interesting stuff out there.
well, finally here's something. and it's sort of blog-related. i've been thinking a lot, and talking with mister pants, about how to visualize the flow of ideas, memes, on the blog-web. imagine a 3-d colored model showing "All Your Base" flowing out from certain blogs and other with-it points on the net, gradually spreading out to everyone with a computer and a modem. anyway, maybe this is the tool to do it with. i especially like demo animation It's a network monitoring tool, as in network performance, but it could also work for other kinds of data, i'm sure.

the meme continues | Mon Mar 12 07:48:26 2001 |

This is actually pretty cool because it encourages the meme to continue even longer. a viral vector... and of course, it's really 2 internet memes combined one recent and one slightly less recent... ( via Nim )

good grief | Sun Mar 11 09:41:26 2001 |
saw the film "good grief"
last night at ATA. it was way cool. made
me wish i was in portland. it was cool recognizing some of
the places. also it was strange but most of the people at
the showing seemed like "portland people". i dont know if i
can really explain it adequately but whenever i go to
portland i feel a definite, almost tangible difference in
the people, compared to most people here in SF. something
more down-to-earth, more punk, or something. and i felt that
same feeling about the people last night.
the guy that read before the film, Al, was great too. he was one of the best readers of poetry/prose i've ever seen. and the funny thing is in the middle of his reading this drunk old crazy guy interrupted him and said something unintellible, but not really rude other than the fact that it was an interruption. and Al stopped and chatted with the guy in front of everyone, very nicely and calmly, like he really really cared and wanted to talk to and get to know this weird bum. the guy explained how he had met janis joplin and seen jimi hendrix play, etc etc. Al eventually said "do you want to go on tour with me? I'm serious." the guy demured and then Al asked if he wanted to hear the rest of the story he was reading, and the guy said, ok. And he was quiet the rest of the time. but he left early, and Al called after him "so i guess the tour's off?" A great moment. I've never seen someone handle a "heckler" so well.

cell phone music | Thu Mar 8 18:00:24 2001 |
this is the "hit" single by Jimmy Cauty's (of the KLF) new band the Solid Gold Chartbusters. Featuring the default ring sound of a Nokia phone. it's hilarious. Even though I hate that ring sound: |

Today I could have learned a lot about
lasers.
But It's hard to read because I'm still hung over from last night. Went to see a show in North Beach at this little tiny bar where Blectum from Blechdom and Lesser and Kid 606 and Gold Chains. It was great but I drank too much. Or the drinks were too strong. Or something. |
