Gov Jan Brewer proposed that Arizona completely eliminate all adult education from the state budget. Many people are against this obviously insane idea.
Almost 1 in 5 high school diplomas are GEDs in Arizona, and Arizona has on of the highest dropout rates in the country. The state would save $4.5 million but would lose another 11 million in federal funds. The state would also lose the approximately $70 million additional tax dollars it gets from GED grads making a higher salary. GED programs only cost an average of $186 per student.
